Quick Guide

First Time Use, and then as Needed 

  • Log In – Sign in to the app with your email address and password (as for MyLab). Once signed in, the app will stay signed in until you sign out. 
  • From the Menu on the right hand side –
    1. Update Property List (if supplied). To receive an updated property list email softwarehelpdesk@hill-labs.co.nz
    2. Update Test List (first use only, will be automatic after this). You can refresh the available tests list on demand via the menu options  
    3. Create Presets (“favourites”)

Create a New Job   

  • Select the property for the job or add a Client Reference
  • Add samples –
    1. Enter the Sample Name (and write name on sample bag)
    2. Capture the sample location GPS start and finish points (optional)
    3. Select the sample test parameters and tests using the test wizard, or select a Preset you have created
    4. Scan the sample bag barcode. This will identify the sample at Hill Laboratories 
    5. Repeat adding more samples as needed. Here, you may use the Copy function to quickly reproduce the sample parameters you have just used 
    6. Add additional job information e.g. notes, quote #, etc.
    7. Check Charge To details are correct. Supply a Client Order Number if required 
    8. Submit the electronic job file to Hill Laboratories
    9. Courier the physical sample bags to Hill Laboratories

Hill Laboratories will then scan the sample bags, which matches them against your electronic job submission, and start processing the samples.   

 Note: The following tasks require an active internet connection – initial sign in, updating the property and test lists, selecting GPS coordinates using the map and submitting the job file to Hill Laboratories.   

  • If other report recipients are required please type into “Notes” field
  • Request sample/courier bags via HL website, by email or phone/text to lab

Test Presets (in Menu) 

The presets can be used like “favourites”.  They consist of a sample type code, sample parameters and test combination that you will use most often.  Set these up before you start. 

– Suggestions for Presets –

Soil Dairy Sed; Soil Maize Ash; Soil Brassica Sed; Soil Fodderbeet Sed; Soil Kiwifruit Pumice; Soil Grape Sed; Soil Avocado Ash 

Example: Setting up a Preset named “Soil Dairy Sed” 

Follow these screen prompts: Create New Preset> Soil> Pastoral Soil> Dairy (Sediment)> Select

Soil Sample Depth 0-75mm; Select Soil Type Sedimentary> Select Requested tests 

(Recommended profile and tests already ticked) Basic Soil + S> Preset Name Soil Dairy Sed> Save 

Example: Setting up a Preset named “Soil Avo Sed” 

Follow these screen prompts: Create New Preset> Soil> Hort Soil> Avocado> Select Soil Sample 

Depth 0-150mm; Select Soil Type Sedimentary> Select Requested tests Basic Soil + Mehlich3> Preset Name Soil Avo Sed> Save 


Test Information 

The recommended tests for a land use are already pre-ticked: 

  • e.g. soil for Dairy Pasture – Basic Soil + S (SO4-S + Extractable Organic S) 
  • e.g. soil for cropping Maize – Basic Soil + S + AN 
  • e.g. soil for cropping Brassica – Basic Soil + S + AN + B
  • e.g. soil for cropping Fodderbeet – Basic Soil + S + AN + B 
  • e.g. soil for Hort. Kiwifruit – Basic Soil + AN 
  • e.g. soil for Hort. Avocado – Basic Soil + M3 

Click on the  icon to see what tests are in a profile.  

Extra tests can be added if you want. 


Notes 

The following are commonly requested soil tests: Sulphur Profile (contains Sulphate-S, Extractable Organic S), Anion Storage Capacity, Potentially Available Nitrogen, Boron, Resin P, Total Sulphur, Total Nitrogen, TBK, Aluminium, Total Cadmium, Organic Matter. 

The lab will do tests as selected in the app (i.e. what is selected in the app job is what we will do).
